Page 286 of Delgado Community College 2003-2004 Catalog by Delgado Community College New Orleans LouisianaGeneral Information Prospective students seeking admission to Delgado Community College must meet the admission requirements for the category under which they are entering. Applications may be submitted at any time during the year. Students can register for credit classes only during the registration periods listed in the published class schedule. Certain programs have special admission requirements and a separate application process. These programs are Culinary Arts, Nursing and most Allied Health programs. Applicants to these programs should contact these departments for further details. General Admissions Requirements: An application for admission ($15 application fee/$25 international application fee). The non-refundable fee is good for one fiscal year (Fall through Summer). Evidence of immunity to or immunization against preventable and/or communicable diseases (If born 1956 or after). Immunization compliance forms are available in the Office of Admissions. Proof of registration with the military selective service for male applicants between the ages of 18 and 26 (in compliance with State Law R.S. 17:3151). Freshman Students (Students who have never attended an accredited college.) Official high school transcript or GED diploma or scores ACT scores if you are 24 years of age or younger Delgados ACT code is 1577. Delgado Placement Test unless exempted. A non-high school graduate at least 17 years of age (with no GED) whose high school class has graduated, or a graduate of a non-accredited high school must show evidence of potential for success by passing an Ability to Benefit (ATB) test Students Currently Enrolled in High School High school students at least 16 years old may enroll with permission from the high school principal, counselor, parent and Associate Dean. A high school student participating in an educational program such as Tech Prep conducted in conjunction with the local school district may be admitted to the college after meeting the general criteria for high school students and any special program requirements. High school students under 16 years of age are only eligible to enroll during the summer session for a maximum of six credit hours Home-Schooled Students Home-schooled students who have not completed a state or regionally accredited program are required to have a GED or pass the Ability to Benefit Test. Transfer Students (Students who have previously attended another regionally accredited college or university.) If you are seeking a degree at Delgado Community College, you must have each regionally accredited college attended send official transcripts to the Office of Admissions, even if no credit was earned. If you are not seeking a degree at this time, you will be classified as a non-degree seeking student. Nondegree seeking students may furnish transcripts from the last school attended only. If you have not earned credit in English and mathematics within the last three years and need to continue taking English and mathematics courses, you will be required to take the Delgado Placement Test. Transfer students who are on academic suspension or dismissal from a college or university must appeal to attend Delgado Community College. The Transfer- Suspension Appeal form may be obtained from the Office of Admissions. If approved to enroll, the student will be in developmental courses, audited courses (nine hours maximum) or non-transferable technical courses only. Academic Amnesty Transfer students or re-admit Delgado students who have not been enrolled in any regionally accredited college or university within the last three years may apply for Academic Amnesty. The Academic Amnesty request form may be obtained from the Office of Admissions. Academic Amnesty must be requested during your first semester at Delgado. Re-Admit Students Students who interrupt their studies for a regular semester (Fall or Spring) must submit a new application and application fee A student who has earned additional credits at another institution will be required to submit or re-submit transcripts International Students A non-U.S. citizen seeking admission on a student visa must submit with the application the items listed below before Form 1-20 can be issued: An official transcript of grades from high school if a first-time college student or from the university attended. (See Evaluation of Foreign Transcripts in college catalog.) The application fee of $25 (non-refundable). A notarized statement of financial support and a bank letter verifying availability of funds. Applications and requirements must be submitted to international student admissions according to the following schedule: Fall Semester before July 1; Spring Semester before November 15; Summer Session before April 15. Special Students A transfer student may be admitted as a special student if he or she is non-degree seeking and has not attended a college or university in the last year. Students enrolling under this admission type may take no more than a total of 12 semester hours before having to submit all records to meet admission requirements. (To be eligible for financial aid, you must be a degree-seeking student.) Cross-Enrolled Students Take your approved Cross Enrollment Form to the Registrars Office. Do not fill out this application or pay the application fee. Students with Disabilities Students with an impairment or disability who require special assistance in classroom accessibility, academic or testing accommodations or other matters may contact the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs at (504) 483-4238. The college has designated a 504/ADA Coordinator, on the City Park Campus in POD B, Administration Building, 501 City Park Ave., New Orleans Provisional Admission Students who qualify are admitted provisionally if admission requirements are not on file at the time of registration.
