only at residential study program at esalen we believe that each of us has the ability to be both a student and a teacher we also believe that what we learn from each other can and should be shared with the world to complete a transformative experience that begins with one and ends with many our new residential study program embraces these beliefs by placing an even greater emphasis on immersive learning over a 28-day extended stay at esalen “as we further explore ways to unleash our collective human potential we are excited for what this means for our residential learning programming,” says cheryl fraenzl director of programs “it was important that one of the first programs we began to reimagine was our work study offering which is such an integral part of who we are.” as a student in this program you can be part of a small cohort of students living on our big sur property and taking part in an integrated learning experience that combines 36 hours of dedicated curriculum paired with a 26-hour weekly service schedule your course of study combines topics directed by visiting faculty along with an in-depth exploration of teachings and movements that were birthed at esalen including gestalt practice and somatics within the service component you will be assigned an esalen department such as the kitchen or guest relations where you will have the opportunity to apply what you learn on a daily basis contemplative and transformative practices are woven throughout the esalen community experience offering valuable opportunities for self and group exploration “we all have powerful capacities for evolving consciousness through self-inquiry reflection and relationship,” adds cheryl “when we take the time to realize and develop these capacities we can transform our lives communities and the world.” for more information please visit www.esalen.org/page work-study.
