EMPLOYMENT POLICIES EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION Ferrum College is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all members of the College community. The College offers equal opportunity to its employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap or veteran status. This policy shall be followed in recruiting, hiring and promotion into all position classifications. The College will ensure that other personnel actions such as compensation, benefits, transfers, demotions, terminations, tuition assistance, social and recreational programs and use of College facilities will be administered without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, handicap or veteran status. The President has appointed the Director of Human Resources to serve as Affirmative Action Officer for the College Section 504 and Title IX requirements. Questions concerning these programs should be directed to the Human Resources Office located in John Wesley Hall, Room 205 or extension 4235. In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, it is the policy of the College to hire only United States nationals or others lawfully authorized to work in the United States. It is the responsibility of each member of the administration of the College, from the President to a first line supervisor, to give this nondiscrimination policy full support through leadership and personal example. In addition, it is the duty of every employee of the College to create a job environment that is conducive to our nondiscrimination policies. ACADEMIC FREEDOM STATEMENT Ferrum College is related to the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the Virginia Conference. One of the continuing objectives of the College has been to provide the best liberal arts education possible within a Christian environment. All faculty members accept positions on the faculty in light of the College's position and relationship to the church. Members of the faculty and staff of the College shall be expected to safeguard the Christian ideal of the College and to conserve its relationship with the United Methodist Church.
