Any currently enrolled qualified student meeting the academic standards outlined above is eligible to challenge a course. 2. Any established course offered at Ferrum College can be challenged. However, most challenges are at the 100-200 level. Divisions may exempt the following courses: a) Special Topics; b) Independent 3. Research; c) Mini-Courses; d) Internships; e) Practicum; f) Student Teaching; g) Seminar; h.) Any other course with a significant experiential learning component including, but not limited to, laboratory, recreation, and physical education. 4. The division shall make the final determination of courses that are eligible for Credit by Examination. 5. Art, Drama, and/or Music courses can be challenged upon approval of the Division Chair and the affected faculty member in that division. The challenge can consist of a written exam, oral exam, portfolio, recital, performance or other submitted works of the students' own creation. 6. Students can challenge General Distribution requirements. 7. PROCEDURE FOR COMPLAINTS RELATED TO A FACULTY MEMBER'S PERFORMANCE When a division chair, program director, program coordinator, or the Dean receives a complaint about a faculty member's performance from a student, colleague, or other party (including those off-campus), that supervisor will encourage the complainant to discuss the matter with the faculty member involved, and the supervisor will also discuss the matter with the faculty member involved. If the matter is not resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties, the division chair will arrange a meeting of the parties at which he or she will be present. If the matter is not resolved at this point, it will be referred to the Dean. The complaint will be made in writing at this point. ACADEMIC VIOLATIONS: THE HONOR BOARD A. Philosophy Academic endeavor is undermined by cheating, plagiarism, or lying for academic advantage. The faculty has the duty to promote an atmosphere of honest learning, first through its own example as a community of scholars, but also through the establishment and support of a system by which students charged with academic wrongdoing can be fairly judged, and if found culpable, held accountable. Such a system should be founded on the following principles. 1.
