the fishing the ryabaga camp has gained a deserved reputation for phenomenal atlantic salmon fishing it offers remarkable numbers of fish placing it statistically as the most productive river in the world and balanced catches with up to 12.5 percent over 10 pounds and plenty of good-sized fish up to the 30-pound mark it encompasses all the methods of fly fishing from long casts with double-handed rods to more delicate single-handed rod fishing with skated flies the occasional upstream dry endless wading or fishing intimate spots from boats in this wilderness there is no poaching no pollution netting or any other obstacles the river is fly fishing only and we adhere to catch-and-release policies over 41 miles 67 kilometers of double-bank water plus the beautiful purnache tributary offer ryabaga camp guests unprecedented fishing beats are accessed using 18-ft us coast guard-approved jet boats powered with mariner 55-hp engines and by mi-2 helicopters for the most distant beats in the rig

the fishing contd for many guests the boats that transfer them along the river are also utilized as stable fishing platforms however for those who prefer to enjoy a river on foot we are equally able to equip the angler with a radio and let him explore the copious amounts of wonderful wading that all beats provide while always keeping in touch with the guide the ponoi may look large but it is a shallow river and has countless riffles runs nooks and crannies that all form their own micro pools eminently readable to the experienced eye there is so much water to explore our guide team remains fascinated and in awe that even after twelve seasons we are all still learning our river obviously there are slow days on the ponoi but more often there have been some amazing records guests catching 150 fish to their rod in a week 1800-fish weeks 45-fish afternoons marathon battles that will always be remembered and great fish lost often the most memorable souvenir of them all the key to the fishing
