great canadian fishing adventures fishing with great canadian fishing adventures can be one of the most memorable fishing experiences of a lifetime imagine battling lake trout or arctic char that seem to never tire or arctic grayling that jump as much as they swim for all american plan and guided fishing trips we now provide spooled rods reels all the best equipment suited for our type of fishing all of our reels can be adjusted from right to left-handed on housekeeping self-guided packages the fishermen supply their own rods reels and tackle lake trout lakers thrive in the cold clear waters of the barren lands their voracious appetites keep them feeding throughout our short open water season ice out is often late june to mid july fishermen will commonly catch 20 to 60 fish a day with some days far exceeding those numbers lake trout can be caught on light medium or heavy tackle we troll cast jig and even cast for them with a fly-rod waters stay cold to cool so there are almost always fish near the surface occasionally during unusually warm periods one has to fish deeper for the really big fish winds continually mix lake water and there usually are some big fish near the surface somewhere in the lake average fish run 5 to 8 lbs with 15 to 20 lb fish common catch and release fishing along with very limited fishing pressure insures a steady supply of really large fish there are bays of our lake that see no fishermen in the course of several years we expect our guests to catch large fish we ve released many in the four-foot range in excess of forty pounds largest trout caught to date 52 lbs 5-of diamond jr husky type spoons are effective lures size depends on weight of tackle preferred mid-weight bait casting or spinning rods handle husky jr size quite well however big fish are often taken on light spinning gear red red-yellow bright green and sometimes yellow and green combinations all work well arctic grayling thelon river grayling are some of the largest in north america every year we see fish near or in the four-pound class most of our fish are three-four pounds largest thelon grayling to date 5.3 lbs the fish are throughout the main lake and occasionally cruise shorelines where they are caught on small spinners or flies you say you don t fly fish we can rig a fly on a light spinning rod and even cast in a wind grayling congregate in rapids which offer some of the finest grayling fishing you ll ever experience these airborne fighters offer exciting action mepps spinners in silver or gold sizes #0 and #1 work well small gray and dark nymphs tan and dark caddis and small mayflies sizes #12 to #18 are all good choices northern pike northerns are not as common as grayling or trout in our lakes and rivers but there are a few hot spots where fishing can be exceptional fish usually run big fish longer than forty inches are expected northern up to 54 inches have been caught and released mid-sized spoons and little cleos produce action arctic char are caught on special exploratory departures only to the arctic ocean area are fished mostly from shore with standard spin-casting equipment 10-17 lbs test line is recommended fish usually run big fish longer than forty inches are expected char up to 22 lbs have been caught and released small to mid-sized florescent spoons produce the best action.
