Page 31 of Design for our future selves 2003 Awards by Helen Hamlyn Research Centre - Royal College of ArtRufus Willis thali island docks A rejuvenation of the inland waterways of Chennai in India that facilitates the return of trade, transport and recreation to the cityfs rivers and canals, and away from its gridlocked streets. Thali Island Docks is the hub of the network, and local dockside markets connect the waterways to the secular and the sacred. Dominic Nowakowski urban flow A travel solution for wheelchair users in the Elephant and Castle area of London that balances public and private transport needs. A fully accessible, automated vehicle is ordered using the mobile phone, allowing journeys to be planned and paid for with the minimum of fuss. On-board GPS allows the system to pinpoint the exact location of the user. 29[close] |
