Taking place at the Royal College of Art, 20-24 September 2003, as part of the London Design Festival, a joint exhibition: Design for our Future Selves An exhibition of socially-aware projects by the Royal College of Art graduating class of 2003, organised by the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre, twinned with: Icons on Icons Photography has played a significant role in perpetuating the icon, whether providing contemporary context for man-made objects or immortalising flesh and blood subjects. This collection of photographic portraits of icons with icons, presented by Parker, explores the path to iconic status. Photographer Phil Sayer has produced a unique visual record of modern creativity and influence. More than 30 leaders in design, architecture, literature, film, advertising, style, fashion, entertainment, media, and sport were set the task of choosing icons that are special to them. Many of the individualistic images featured in Icons on Icons form a commentary on enduring and iconic design, selected by the very people who impact on our tastes, values and culture.
