engine on 4WD models makes 244 hp and 240 lb.-ft. of torque on
regular gas plus it can tow up to 4,500 lbs. 5 The Programmed Fuel

Rear differential always on call.
When added traction is needed, the
VTM-4 ECU signals the rear differential
magnetic clutches to engage, seamlessly
transferring power to the rear wheels.
Center propeller shaft.
The propeller shaft always sends power
back to the rear differential. But the rear
wheels are not engaged until directed by
the VTM-4 electronic control unit (ECU).
VTM-4 LockR gets you under way.
When circumstances require some extra
traction such as starting off in mud or
snow you can manually lock the rear
differential with a button conveniently
located on the Pilots instrument panel.
Front differential for most driving.
When extra traction isnt needed, VTM-4
directs all power to the front differential,
boosting efficiency in daily use.

the VTM-4 ECU automatically engages the

The new 2WD models let you combine Pilot ruggedness
with remarkable efficiency. Pilot 2WD models come
with a standard Variable Cylinder Management (VCM)
system thats been designed to boost fuel economy 6
without sacrificing power when and where you need it.
Power on demand.
Under acceleration or with a full load,
all six cylinders are activated to
provide you with the 3.5-liters
full rating of 244 hp. Youll
have all the power
and torque for towing, 5 passing or
merging on to
the highway.
Six for power, three for economy.
Using an array of sensors and electronic
controls, the VCM system activates
or deactivates the three rear cylinders
depending on the drivers demands.
Economical cruising.
While under light engine load conditions,
the VCM system deactivates the three
rear cylinders by pausing the
fuel injection and leaving
the valves closed. This
pioneering design
helps use less
fuel and save
you money.
