81 TO ORDER CALL 800-341-5949 OR FAX 614-294-5692 THE HISTORY 1956-59 relays have a brown bakelite housing, 5/16-24 thread battery cable lugs, all nuts which bear against the housing have a lock washer with a thin plastic washer beneath, bottom cover without vent and a mounting bracket marked FDR 11450-A at the leading edge. 1960-into 1965 relays have a brown bakelite housing, fine thread battery cable lugs, all nuts which bear against the housing have an attached lock washer with a beige color sealer beneath, bottom cover without vent and a mounting bracket marked 2701966 at the leading edge. The bracket is stamped in FoMoCo script on all relays until about Jan. 1965 when Ford changed to the black housing and FoMoCo block style lettering. For a period of months around the changeover brown and black relays were assembled with sript or block letter logo brackets. The black FoMoCo relay was used until late in the 1966 model year when it was replaced by the first Autolite relay. The early Autolite relays had fine threads and were marked C6AF . The Autolite marking was small. Later FoMoCo and all Autolite relays use red sealer around the mounting bracket rivet. All Autolite relays have a vented bottom cover and are date coded. The C7AF 11450-A1 relay saw production in August 1966. The early C7AF used until December 1966 has short 5/16-18 thread battery cable lugs and a small Autolite trademark marking. January 1967-71 C7AF 11450-A1 Autolite relays are alike except for some manufactured between spring and fall of 1968 which have an unusual cross hairs pattern on the brackets rivet. Between 1964-68 two similar solenoids to those discussed above were used in limited numbers apparently only at the Metuchen plant (regarding Mustangs). These came from Fords lesser used supplier. This type bears the engineering number C4AF 11450-A1 and C7AF 11450-A2. Both units had a black body with a black plastic bottom cover. The mounting bracket commonly had a slight amount of yellow iridescence.
