Auto Groupfs catalog, focusing onRestomods, Clones and Re- Engineered driving machines . K.A.R. has been restoring classic Mustangs for over 28 years. A not so well kept secret is that we have been modifying and upgrading these Mustangs for at least half of that time. In fact, back in the very early 1990s, the car pictured below, build by yours truly, won a number of trophies to include a National Mustang Club of America award in the Modi ed Class. We at K.A.R. labeled this 1966 convertible as the gBoss-Stang.h It was powered by a real Boss-302 motor. Yep! We made it t and function awlessly. 4-wheel disc brakes, a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, a 9-inch rear end with 3.50 gears, and some gtrickh suspen sion work made the Boss-Stang into a truly gre-engineered driving machineh with the appearance of a 1966 Shelby Clone con vertible. 7000 RPMs, track like it was on rails, and stop on a dime! Since the term Restomod was not coined until 1995 by Jim Smart, I guess we were restomoding and cloning long before this practice was popu lar enough to merit the recognition it enjoys today.
