K.A.R. lists the backspacing dimension for every wheel that we sell. We are very careful not to sell wheels to classic Mustang owners that will not t their car. There should be no rubbing or contact points when the steering wheel is turned lock to lock. This test is done with out tires to insure that tire size is not a factor in wheel t. Backspacing, simply stated, is the distance from the inside or back edge of the wheel to the at mounting surface where the wheel bolts to the brake drum or brake rotor. The diagram at right should be a clear illusttration. Offset is the distance from the point where the wheel rests against the drum or rotor to the center line of the wheel. This can be a positive or negative number. Tire Size Once the wheels have been selected it is now time to select the tire of c hoice. Select ing the correct tire size to t the wheels and clear all suspension components and body panels is crucial. A good starting point is knowing the overall height and width of the tires and wheels currently on the car. You should also know how much suspension and body clearance these current tires and wheels afford. You can then determine how much bigger and wider you can go with new tires. You obviously must allow suf cient room for clearance. Several tire manufacturers offer tire/wheel calculators on their web site. These calculators allow you to enter your current tire and wheel combination and a proposed tire and wheel combination. It will then compare the two and display the dimensions of both combinations allowing you to compare differences. You can enter combinations until you nd one that best meets your available ers visit www.1010tires.com and use their tire and wheel size calculator. Tech Tip: Always keep in mind that the shape and the condition of your Mustang�fs suspension will have an effect on tire clearance. Some owners also lower their Mustang as well. You must know the maximum USEABLE clearance between suspension components and body panels prior to selecting your combination. Do your homework prior to purchasing tires and wheels and you can avoid a lot of frustration and redundant expense.
