Page 10 of Kawasaki Motorcycles by Kawasaki USATransmission Back Torque Limiter (BTL) clutch (also called slipper clutch) improves rider confidence and control when aggressively downshifting. A special two-piece clutch hub extends outward to push on the clutch spring plate under engine braking to partially release the clutch plates. This allows the clutch to slip somewhat, reducing the possibility of locking the rear wheel when entering corners. Back Torque Limiter action can be customized for rider preference and racing conditions. Clutch action under power is unaffected by the BTL. Close-ratio, undercut, six-speed transmission provides positive shifting feel. New external transmission shift pedal with all new linkage improves shifting effort. 2005 model 2006 model Convenient positive neutral finder makes finding neutral a snap at stop lights. The transmission locks out second gear when standing still; just lift the pedal from first gear and the transmission is in neutral. Its exclusive to Kawasaki street bikes. During engine braking, the moveable clutch hub rises on this ramp causing it to push on the clutch spring plate to release some of the pressure against the clutch plates. The spring plate is lifted by the moveable clutch hub pushing against it. BTL action is adjustable by adding/removing leaf springs.[close] |
