Page 172 of Kawasaki Motorcycles by Kawasaki USATorquey response in the low to mid-ranges is thanks in part to the tapered exhaust headpipe that expands in diameter from 38 to 41 mm. The exhaust pipe characteristics contribute to both low-rpm and high-rpm performance. To help reduce engine weight, we used a titanium exhaust pipe cover. The silencer uses a new long-fibre packing which is much more resistant to being blown out of the tail pipe. As a result, packing needs to be replaced half as often. Wanting to maximise the engines reliability, the crankshaft and connecting rod receive a carburising and quenching treatment for additional rigidity. A crankshaft driven engine balancer reduces stress on the engine, chassis, and rider.[close] |
