Transmission The MULE 610 4x4 was the first utility vehicle in its class to offer selectable 2WD/4WD. Beltdriven automatic transmission with a dual-range transfer case (High-Low) gives the 610 4x4 excellent off-road riding capability. Two forward speeds to choose from lends flexibility when hillclimbing or hauling heavy loads. Tough, KVF360~750 style transmission features fewer parts and a single shift fork for smooth operation when shifting. Reverse is accomplished by heavy-duty, multi-linkplate chain deleting the need for an additional reverse idler shaft. Stepped gate shifter is easy to use with R-N-H-L shift pattern. Transmission mounted governor smoothly limits maximum vehicle speed to 40 kph (25 mph) by adjusting throttle opening. Full engine power is available until the vehicle approaches top governed speed. Speed governor is driven by the transmission input shaft rather than by engine speed to offer more accurate speed control. Input shaft mounting also allows for engine speed governing even in neutral. Single shift fork requires only one cable to operate. Stepped shift gate eases gear selection.
