Page 28 of Lakeland Community College General Information by Lakeland Community CollegeCampus Services and Student Activities 31 Student Organizations Lakeland provides students with an opportunity to pursue personal or professional interests or talents through organized involvement with other students and faculty/staff advisors The student activities staff is available to assist students in forming any organization which better accommodates their interests. Students are encouraged to take an active role in campus life at Lakeland. Through involvement, students develop skills in such areas as communication, organizational leadership, creative abilities, and analytical skills, which will be valuable in both personal and professional life The Learning Center (Tutorial The free services offered by the Learning Center help students maintain their academic performance as well as overcome academic difficulties Services are available to students currently enrolled in and attending credit courses. Services include: Also located across from the center is a test center, where instructors may leave makeup exams. Womenfs Center The Womenfs Center is designed to respond to the needs and concerns of women as they pursue educational goals, examine personal potential, and explore career opportunities in a society where numerous barriers prohibit full and equitable participation. The Womenfs Center helps students overcome barriers to achievement by providing information and referrals to community resources, creating courses and programs geared to their special needs, and by organizing workshops, seminars, conferences, and special events Menfs Resource The Menfs Resource Center offers general guidance to men over 24 years of age who are interested in taking classes at Lakeland, but arenft quite sure how or whether to begin the process. The Center additionally provides non-credit programs of interest to men; helps arrange support services for current male students; and, in general, acts as a clearinghouse for information about other Lakeland resources as well as community resources. For men in the community, the Center offers programs that assist with career transitions, including a job search training program for unemployed individuals. The Menfs Center is located in A-1044g. Phone: 440.525.7447 The Center for Business and The Center for Business and Industry (CBI) provides customized solutions for improving individual and organizational performance. CBI has the capacity to address substantial organization issues with appropriate intervention, and offers a variety of very costeffective services such as customized training and education, and technical consulting services The CBI Account Representatives will work with the client to help identify performance improvement needs, resulting in greater productivity and increased efficiency The Quality and Productivity Center is a premier provider of services dedicated to cost-effective, market-driven education, training and technical services. Our consultants can lead the client through Lean Manufacturing, Constraints Management, and through the ISO/QS process. A Quality Managers Network has been established to focus on ISO, quality tools and techniques, and environmental rules and applications. The CBI client services office located in A1043 Community Learning/Noncredit Instruction Community Learning programs are part of Lakelandfs comprehensive mission. Noncredit courses and programs are designed to stimulate an understanding of the social, scientifi and cultural aspects of our society. These courses also provide a non-threatening, non-competitive environment to improve skills and understanding. Lifelong learning opportunities are made available by the college through numerous noncredit courses, workshops, online courses, seminars, and conferences offered throughout the year. The following programs are offered: Continuing Education: These courses respond to specifi educational and/or training needs for the general public. Courses are either not in areas where credit instruction is offered, or are focused on specific skill development and are not comprehensive or theoretically based. They may also provide a pre-credit introduction to the field. Examples include GIS (geographical information systems), professional sales or project management Personal and Skill These courses address interests in leisure-time, recreational, and avocational areas. Examples include gardening, personal finance, and cooking Professional Development: These topics are available to individuals who are interested in expanding their professional knowledge base. Professionals who require continuous learning activities to improve their professional skills and/or retain licensure can earn continuing education units and/or certification. The CEUs attached to most of the courses are approved by the particular State Board.
