171 334 French Culture and Civilization An overview of French culture and civilization including: the main events of French history; the development of French social and political institutions; the rich artistic production emanating from Frances cultural heritage; the geography of France; and Frances place in twenty-first century Europe. Choice of topics and scope of discussion is at the discretion of the instructor. Prerequisites: FR 221 and 222. Credit three hours. 440 French Poetry Study of masterpieces of French poetry from Middle Ages to the present. Prerequisite: 15 hours of French. Credit three hours. 441 The French Novel A study of selected masterpieces in the field of the novel from the seventeenth century to the present. Prerequisite: junior or senior standing, 15 hours of French or consultation. Credit three hours. 442 The French Drama A study of selected masterpieces in the field of the theatre from the seventeenth century to the present. Prerequisite: junior or senior standing, 15 hours of French or consultation. Credit three hours. 443 Research and Directed Reading in French A concentration of study on various topics which are chosen to fit the need and interest of the individual student. Prerequisite: language major with junior or senior standing, 15 hours of French. Credit three hours. 447 Methods in Modern Foreign Language Teaching This course presents the professional methods of teaching a foreign language. It reviews the preparations for successful teaching and learning and provides a practical application in the use of these methods. Prerequisite: six hours of education and 15 hours of French. Credit three hours. (Fee $18) German Courses (GM) 101 Elementary German I Introduction to German in its cultural setting. Emphasis on conversation. Credit three hours. (Fee $25) 102 Elementary German II A continuation of German I with emphasis on conversation. Prerequisite: German I or two years of high school German. Prerequisite: GM 101. Credit three hours.
