more cool mustangs in the mustangs plus stable build your own see our ronster kit section in this catalog built by ron and david bramlett ben smith and kevin sittner in 1995 -1996 the ronster a 2-seater mustang roadster built from a 1965 coupe was conceived during the building of the retractable since the ronster was going to be different from anything that had been built before we saw the golden opportunity to build it with an new efi engine and an aod transmission dakota digital digital gauges and american racing 17 x8 wheels the paint color was narrowed down to two choices 1996 laser red or 1996 sapphire blue both colors were put on test panels and sent down to mustang fords editor jim smart in los angles where he showed them around the office to the other magazine editors the unanimous favorite was sapphire blue which changes color from a dark blue to a purple when the light reflects off it the ronster was the cover car for the september 1996 issue of mustang fords magazine and had a 5 page article written about it the ronster built by ron bramlett ben smith and kevin sittner in 1995 ben smith the engineer and designer of the now famous 1957 to 1959 ford retractable hardtops was put in charge of building a retractable mustang for ford which he completed in 1966 but the idea was never put into production and the prototype was supposedly destroyed after ben retired he built a retractable mustang and designed kits to sell of the one that got away from ford our 1964½ retractable was built using one of his kits during construction ben came out to california and helped us through the installation process we then finished the car with a top notch restoration keeping everything else fairly original as soon as it was completed it was featured in the january 1996 issue of mustang fords magazine when people see it for the first time they exclaim what a beautiful convertible when we tell them it s really a coupe the retractable mustangsplus.com order online restomod headquarters trunk 157
