As the cylinder is filled, the rising liquid level lifts the float to a predetermined position (based on the proper valve selection) to prevent dangerous overfilling. Selecting the Proper OPD When replacing cylinder valves with an OPD valve, use the table to the right to identify the maximum liquid level dip tube length to be used based on the cylinder being re-valved. If the dip tube length shown on the cylinder collar is not in the table, use the next longer dip tube. Valve Repair OPD valve stems and handwheels are designed not to be repairable or replaceable. This is a design standard to prevent inadvertent mixing of Non OPD valve parts with OPD valve parts. All OPD valves have a triangular handwheel for easy identification.
