1958-2008 50th ann iversary s&s® presents the new standard in v-twin performance the future is now s&s cycle looked to the future to meet tightening emissions standards head on the result is the all new x-wedgetm engine this next generation v-twin is a departure from traditional s&s engine design this is not a replacement engine but is intended for use in custom builds and for custom oe manufactures in order to meet the needs of these applications the x-wedge engine not only makes power and looks great it also meets 2008 carb and 2010 epa emissions standards the x-wedge engine pronounced cross-wedge or ex-wedge take your pick is a 56° pushrod v-twin with three belt driven cams in a unique configuration that provides nearly straight pushrod angles to all valves in the lower end a one piece forged crankshaft with plain bearing connecting rods and plain main bearings offers greater load capacity and increased engine durability and reduced noice the cylinder heads were designed with automotive style lowmass rocker arms and a unique cross-flow wedge style combustion chamber the fuel system consists of a single bore throttle body with the s&s variable fuel injection module which boasts dual closed loop feedback for fuel control and a knock sensing ignition the x-wedge is initially offered in 117 displacement but was designed to accommodate displacements of 110 to 139 new and innovative designs there are too many innovations and unique designs built into the x-wedge engine to list every one here but lets take a look at the most important ones first of all as mentioned the x-wedge is not a replacement engine it will not fit in a harley-davidson® frame like many of our other engines a special frame with the appropriate engine mounts is required but since this engine is intended for custom builds that is not really an issue if you are building a custom motorcycle you need a frame anyway x-wedge compatible frames are now available from s&s and several other frame manufacturers and more are on the way however the crankcase does bolt up to most standard primary drives so the x-wedge is compatible with a large number of existing primary cases clutches and transmissions bike builders get s&s quality drive train components with the s&s chassis/drive train kits shown on page 10-3 of this catalog order toll free 866-244-2673 2-2
