Contemporary Issues 26 Survey of Latin American government and politics. Analysis of repre- Latin American sentative cases of liberal-pluralist, authoritarian and totalitarian systems Government in terms of the regions political, economic, and social features. and Politics 27 A comparative study of politics and political structures in selected European European countries. Emphasis is on Europes Big Four: France, Government German, England and Italy. The European Union is also considered. and Politics 28 This course examines the politics and political structures of Portugal Government and Spain. Lectures will emphasize various themes related to Iberian and Politics political development, which include the Spanish Civil War, the in Portugal Portuguese colonial wars, the Fascist period, the transition to demoand Spain cracy, Spanish regionalism, the Roman Catholic Church, relations between the two countries, and relations with the rest of Europe. Each of the countries will be considered individually, but similarities and contrasts among them will be emphasized. 29 Analysis of contemporary politics in Russia. The course emphasizes Russian Area those historical, geographical, and economic features which influence Politics Russian political developments. Attention is also given to the uniqueness of Russian political thought and cultural influences. 30 An examination of the politics of the world economy. Issues include International the coordination of trade and monetary policies, the management of Political finance and debt, prospects for development, strategies for industrial Economy adjustment, and North-South relations. 35 An analysis of American foreign policy. Emphasis is on the Vietnam American War, the Cold War, and post-1989 developments.
