Students will receive a Certificate of Completion after completing all required courses of the certificate program with a C or better. Students who wish to earn an Associate Degree must complete a total of 60 units including general education and math competency requirements. If students wish to complete a degree in addition to the Certificate, it is recommended they consult a counselor for requirements. The Occupation Job titles vary but may include secretary, word processing typist, and office assistant. Typical duties include applying organizational and time management skills to increase productivity, managing both automated and manual records, and using technology to produce office documents. In addition, individuals may also be required to answer the telephone, effectively use a computerized word processing program to prepare correspondence and reports, and file alphabetically and numerically. Employment Demand in this occupational area will rise as the economy grows and as more workers are employed in offices. Several hundred thousand openings occur each year as workers transfer to other occupations or leave the workforce. The trend toward office support staff assuming more responsibilities traditionally reserved for managers and professions should also stimulate demand.
