CR/ NC option. Prerequisite: Clothing/Textiles 72A. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent In-depth study of specific clothing construction techniques, social and psychological aspects of clothing, color, line and design and wardrobe planning as it relates to body types. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 3 units. CL TX 73 Stretch Apparel Construction 1.5 units/1 hour lecture, 2 hours laboratory. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A and knowledge of basic sewing skills An in-depth study of stretch fabrics and their characteristics. Students will learn when and how the specialty fabrics are used in apparel. Emphasis will be given to special construction techniques necessary for completion of garments made of stretch fabrics. Professional and updated methods are utilized in addition to creative styling techniques. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 6 units. CL TX 75 Silk Dyeing Technique for Fashion and Art (Formerly Clothing and Textiles 74) 1.5 units/1 hour lecture, 2 hours laboratory. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent The study of natural and man made fibers including their characteristics, use and care for clothing and home furnishings. Topics include yarn and fabric construction and identification, dyeing and printing processes, finishes, fabric testing, performance and serviceability and legislation. CL TX 170A Clothing Construction (Formerly Clothing/Textiles 370A) 3 units/2 hours lecture, 4 hours laboratory. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent Selection of patterns and fabrics, fitting and alteration techniques, basic clothing construction techniques for the beginning or intermediate sewer. Also offered as a module, short term course. CL TX 170B Clothing Construction (Formerly Clothing/Textiles 370B) 3 units/2 hours lecture, 4 hours laboratory. CR/NC option For the advanced clothing student who wishes to work with designer patterns, unusual garment details and trims, alterations, or difficult fabrics. Fitting techniques stressed throughout. Experimentation and evaluation with advanced clothing construction techniques. Projects required. May be taken for a total of 6 units. CL TX 173 Stretch Apparel Construction 1.5 units/1 hour lecture, 2 hours laboratory. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent and knowledge of basic sewing skills An in-depth study of stretch fabrics and their characteristics. May be repeated with different topics. Students are limited to a maximum of 30 units in Basic Skills courses. Students participating in ESL or Disability Resources programs are not subject to this limitation. CSKL 300 Basic Skills 1 unit/48 hours laboratory. CR/NC only This course is designed to prepare the under-prepared student for college level work. Skill areas to be covered include reading, writing, arithmetic, test taking, critical thinking and study skills. Intensive instruction in both the classroom and the lab setting, with extensive use of computers. Coursework is individualized to students' needs, and is offered in several modular open entry/open exit formats throughout the semester. May be taken for a total of 8 units. CSKL 300J Basic Skills 1 unit/48 hours laboratory for 1 week. CR/NC only This course is designed to prepare the under-prepared student for college level work. CR/NC only Obtaining a profile of a students strengths and weaknesses in the area of word attack skills, language and vocabulary abilities, reading comprehension and perceptual skills. CSKL 302 Introduction To Reading Across the Curriculum (Formerly Interdisciplinary Skills 302) 3.5 units/3 hours lecture, 2 hours by arrangement. CR/NC option Instruction in basic academic skills to prepare students for collegiate level coursework and to develop skills which are equivalent to those of graduating high school seniors. This course is especially appropriate for students who have previously had academic difficulties. Emphasis is on preparing students for success in Associate Degree applicable coursework through the study of broad and applied knowledge in social studies, science, reading and writing.
