184 Santa Rosa Junior College Admission to the Program Fashion Careers Program is open to all students. Program Information The Fashion Careers Program at Santa Rosa Junior College encompasses many facets of the fashion industry which can lead to job opportunities in sales, buying, fashion consulting, production, fashion coordination, starting your own business, or management training. Executive training programs are offered by regional and national chain stores for individuals who have completed an Associate of Arts, Bachelors of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree. Enthusiasm, ambition, and good interpersonal skills are important traits for success in this field. Occupational Description Advanced education experience required Employment The fashion industry is the second largest career field in the United States and is a leading industry in California. The employment outlook for fashion merchandising is strong. The San Francisco area is establishing itself as a serious design center in regional and national markets. There is a constant demand for skilled, qualified, and reliable workers in merchandising and design. There are 60 total units required for the A.A. Degree including general education and math competency requirements. If the student wishes to complete a degree in addition to the certificate, consult a Counselor for requirements. FASHN 50 Fashion Careers 3 units/3 hours. CR/NC option A basic study of the world of fashion merchandising: the economics, sociological and psychological factors affecting fashion merchandise. Exploration of career opportunities and requirements will be covered to help prepare students for employment in the field of fashion. (CSU) FASHN 51 Fashion Apparel Accessories 3 units/3 hours lecture This course explores current trends and product knowledge in Ready-To-Wear and Accessories. Included are styles, designs, construction, details, sizing, terminology, and sales techniques for all types of apparel and home furnishing. (CSU) FASHN 52 Fashion Display 2 units/1.5 hours lecture, 1.5 hours laboratory The study of how fashion shows sell merchandise. Students learn how to plan all aspects of the show including the staging, lighting, music, models, modeling, writing commentary and rehearsals. Students produce a full-scale fashion show. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 4 units. FASHN 53 Fashion Analysis 3 units/2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent Social and psychological aspects of clothing. Study of color, line and design as it relates to body types. Art elements as they apply to clothing. (CSU) CAN H EC 20 FASHN 54 Bridal Consultant 1 unit/2 hours for 8 weeks Planning a wedding from engagement through the ceremony and reception. To include wedding party responsibilities, proper attire, etiquette, correspondence, food, flowers, music and facilities. (CSU)
