Guidance GUID 50 Student Staff Assistant Training 1-3 units/up to 2 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent. A workshop to train students to assist staff and students in a variety of campus settings. Students will develop competencies in the areas of communication, cross-cultural awareness, human relations and locating and utilizing cam us resources. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 4 units. GUID 55 College Survival Techniques 1-3 units/up to 3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent Combine sound learning techniques such as effective listening, notetaking, test preparaton; encouraging the student's growth in realizing their potential through decision making, goal setting, values, and time management. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 3 units GUID 56 Take Charge of Your Learning 3 units/8 hours lecture for 6 weeks. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A. Recommended for students on Academic or Progress probation or on dismissal status. Assessment of study skills, time management, organizational skills, motivation, educational goals, and career goals. Students will evaluate these skills and goals in relationship to their enrollment at SRJC their poor academic status. The importance of self esteem and ways to improve it will be looked at. (CSU) GUID 60 Effective Study Workshop 1 unit/1 hour lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent Provides a planned instruction program designed to assist students in improving their study skills. Formulated for all students, it will emphasize goal identification, organizing study habits, how to read and study textbooks, take effective notes, how to take examinations, and correct use of the library. Covers the total development of the individual and attitudes toward academic and personal problem solving. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 2 units. GUID 60.1 Overcoming Math Anxiety 0.5-3 units/up to 3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Explore the nature, causes, and effects of define the impact of emotions and quantitative reasoning anxiety, and attitudes on learning and performance. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 4 units. GUID 61 Introduction to Career Development 0.5-3 units/up to 3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent Instruction in the development of a career plan. Emphasis is on interest and personality testing, values clarification, career information, research skills, individual skills assessment, decision making, goal setting and the development of a career implementation plan. Changing job trends and needs and the procurement and retention of employment. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 4 units. GUID 61.1 Job Search and Retention 0.5-1 unit/up to 1 hour lecture. CR/NC only. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or GUID 61.2 Self-Paced Career Exploration 0.5-3 units/up to 9 hours by arrangement. CR/NC only. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent Self-paced instruction in career planning. Exploration of values, interests, capabilities, requirements of occupations, changing job trends; skills in finding and retaining a job. Students select from workshops, workbook assignments, interest inventories, and other activities to develop their own course. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 4 units. GUID 70 Theory, Techniques Practices in Human Development 1-3 units/up to 3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Study of theories, techniques, and practices regarding human development as they pertain to society, groups, family, and individual behavior. (CSU) CSU area E May be taken for a total of 6 units. GUID 74 Identity and Cultural Diversity 3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent A comparative and historical analysis of society and individual behavior from a multicultural perspective. An examination of U.S. American cultural groups and the various experiences and ideas that influence behavior. This course will explore the experiences of at least three of the following cultural Latino and Native Americans. The groups: African, European, Asian, relationship between personality development and culture, barriers to effective cross-cultural interaction and the development of communication styles will also be explored. (CSU) AA/AS areas D, G; CSU area D, C GUID 80 Understanding the Transfer Process 0.5-3 units/up to 1 hour lecture. CR/NC only. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or ESL 314 or equivalent. Introduction to the transfer research process designed for planning long term educational and career goals. Evaluating universities, transfer requirements, application process, degrees offered, housing, financial aid, scholarships and supportive services. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 3 units. GUID 98 Special Studies in Guidance 1-3 units/up to 1 hour lecture, 1 hour by arrangement. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent. Seminars or individual conferences by arrangement to provide for independent study and enriched academic experience. (CSU) Independent study including 49 and 98 courses 6 unit total. GUID 355 College Preparation Skills 1-3 units/up to 3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: Concurrent enrollment in English 355. Combines study skills, college awareness, self-assessment, and educational planning. Encourages the individuals growth toward a college success program. GUID 361 lntroduction to Career Development for ESL Students 1-3 units/up to 3 hours lecture. CR/NC only. Exploration for ESL students of occupational choices and the job market in relationship to personal and vocational goals. Development of career planning for students who are uncertain about their educational and vocational goals. May be taken for a total of 6 units. GUID 370 College Orientation 0.5-1 unit/up to 8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/NC only. Provides a basic overview of the programs and courses offered at the college, the services available to students, the college procedures and the colleges expectations of students. GUID 370.1 College Orientation for ESL Students 1 unit/1 hour lecture. CR/NC only. Course for students who speak English as a second language. Designed to help students establish fundamental relationships to instructional and student support services in the Santa Rosa Junior College environment.
