NRV 58A Skills Laboratory for Vocational
Nursing Students
Planning and implementing basic
patient care is practiced in a simulated
clinical setting. Relationships between
these concepts and nursing skills
relevant to steps in the nursing process:
assessment, planning, implementing,
evaluation and documentation are
practiced. Return demonstrations by
students are included prior to
assignment of skill in the clinical setting.
The laboratory is used not only for
teaching new skills but also for
reinforcement of previously learned
skills. (CSU)
May be taken for a total of 3 units.
NRV 58B Skills Laboratory for Vocational
Nursing Students
2 unit/3 hours laboratory. Prerequisite: Admission
to LVN program; successful completion of NRV 52
and 51L; Corequisite of NRV 52A and 52AL.
Demonstration and supervised practice
of intermediate skills based on scientific
Vocational 52 including the bio/
principles and concepts from Nursing
psycho/social sciences. Planning and
implementing intermediate patient care
in the simulated clinical setting.

Oceanography
OCEAN 1 General Oceanography
3 units/2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory
Recommended: Physical Science 2 or Geology 1 and
eligibility or English 100A or equivalent.
Principles of oceanography; physical,
chemical and biological concepts;
marine geology and atmosphere-ocean
interaction. At least two field trips

Practical reasoning, argumentation and
the analysis of language as instruments
of sound thinking in everyday life.
PHIL 3 Critical Thinking

PHIL 4 introduction to Symbolic Logic
3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Prerequisite:
Completion of or concurrent enrollment in either
English 100A or Math 150A or the equivalent.
An introduction to symbolic systems as
means for representing deductive logic
and reasoning. The course will examine
the nature of logic, as well as the
principles and techniques relevant to
sentential and predicate logic. (CSU/

Examination of contemporary moral
issues such as capital punishment,
euthanasia and abortion and of ethical
principles and theories involved in
thinking about such issues. (CSU/UC)

Study and comparison of the major
Eastern religions (Hinduism, Buddhism,
Taoism and Confucianism) and of the

3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option.
Recommended: Eligibility for English 1A.
An examination of philosophical
concepts such as liberty, equality, rights,
justice, and democracy. Typical
approaches will use these and other
concepts to address the nature of
government and citizenship, attempting
to understand the U.S. Constitution,
Civil Rights, and contemporary issues
such as affirmative action and the
