AJ 205.14 Supervising Police Traffic Control Function
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
AJ 200.1 or equivalent.
General use of CVC as a reference source; case law
research; deployment of personnel; recognizing stress
symptoms in traffic officers and providing solutions.
AJ 205.15 Patrol Aspects of Traffic Law Enforcement
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
AJ 200.1 or equivalent.
Designed to provide technical training for the student
who is a generalist patrolman with traffic law
enforcement responsibilites.
AJ 205.16 Field Training Officer
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only.
This course is designed to meet the needs of the newly
assigned field training officer of a law enforcement
agency, who is given responsibility to train new
employees.
AJ 205.17 Background Investigation
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only.
This course is designed for those individuals who
conduct preemployment personnel background
investigations for public safety employment. The
student will be introduced to the federal and state fair
employment laws, job dimensions, job traits, and
essential functions of the background investigator.
The student will understand the role and
responsibilities of the investigator in the
preemployment background investigation process,
and will gain the ability to conduct effective
preemployment interviews as well as how to
document a thorough preemployment background
investigation.
May be taken for a total of 4 units.
AJ 205.18 Interviews Interrogation
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
AJ 200.1 or equivalent.
Individual methods and aids employed in various
aspects of interrogations and interviews. Psychological
advantages and disadvantages for the interviewer
during the investigation process.
AJ 210.1 Officer Safety Field Tactics
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
AJ 200.1 or equivalent.
Legal and moral obligations of officers involved in
critical situation. Special training and tactics and
procedures for protection to the officer and the public.
Course exempt from repeat provisions.
AJ 210.2 Defensive Tactics/Arrest Techniques
0.5 unit/24 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only.
AJ 210.3 Defensive Tactics-Instructor
2 units/40 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/NC only.
Prerequisite: AJ 200.1 or equivalent.
This instructors course deals with contemporary
issues and tactics for self-defense, and arrest
techniques. It is an extremely physically and mentally
challenging program.
AJ 210.9 Survival Shooting Instruction
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
AJ 200.1 and Basic Firearms Instructor Course.
Recommended: Function as a firearms instructor.
Safety instructions for firing range, fundamentals of
single action and double action revolver shooting.
Operation and firing of various types of hand guns
and shoulder weapons. Various firearms courses used
in police training. Students operate as instructors.
Non lethal chemical agents and their use in law
enforcement.
May be taken for a total of 2 times.
AJ 210.11 Special Weapons Tactics
1 unit/40 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
AJ 200.1 or equivalent.
Advanced officer training in new court decisions, laws,
ethics, community relations, with emphasis on types
of weaponry and their use in an emergency situation.
May be taken for a total of 2 times.
AJ 210.16 Defensive Tactics/Baton Techniques
1.5 units/1 hour lecture, 2 hours laboratory. CR/NC only.
Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of Defensive Tactics and Baton
techniques. The techniques learned will enable the
students to defend themselves and to control people in
a safe manner.
May be taken for a total of 4 units.
AJ 210.17 Arrest/Control Tactics
1.5 units/1 hour lecture, 2 hours laboratory. CR/NC only.
Recommended: Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of Arrest/Control techniques. The
techniques learned will enable the students to search,
handcuff, and control people in a safe manner.
May be taken for a total of 4 units.
AJ 214.1 Supervisory Field Training Officer
0.5 unit/24 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only.
Prerequisite: AJ 200.1, the basic course or equiv.
Recommended: Supervisory responsibility or agency
assignment.
A course of instruction for supervisors who are
assigned as the field training supervisor to a newly
appointed supervisor. Course deals with transition,
evaluation, training, reporting, and issues.
May be taken for a total of 1 unit.
AJ 215.1 Law Enforcement Supervisor
Techniques
2 units/40 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/NC only.
Prerequisite: Prior qualification for AJ 215.1; OR completion
of AJ 200.1 with grade of C or better.
This course will identify the training necessary for
Law Enforcement supervisors mandated by Peace
Officer Standards and Training, a State regulatory
agency. This course will address leadership styles,
motivation, communication, problem solving and
discipline issues.
May be taken for a total of 2 units.
AJ 215.3 Unusual Incidents Tactics
0.5 unit/24 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only.
Prerequisite: AJ 200.1, the basic course or equivalent.
A course in planning and tactics for public safety
management personnel. The course explores recent
disasters and incidents, and develops skills in
planning for such events.
AJ 216.1 Civilian Supervision
1 unit/64 hours lecture for 1 week. CR/NC only.
Provides newly appointed supervisors with training in
concepts, techniques, and application of basic
supervisory skills.
May be taken for a total of 2 times.
AJ 221.1 PC 832 Arrest Course
(Formerly AJ 299.72) 1 unit/32 hours lecture, 8 hours
laboratory for 1 week. CR/NC only. Recommended: Eligibility
for English 100A or equivalent or departmental entrance
exam.
Fulfills requirements of Section 832 of the Penal Code
as mandated by peace officer standards and training.
Laws of arrest, search and seizure, communications
and arrest control.
AJ 221.2 Corrections Officer Basic Course
(Formerly AJ 299.73) 4 units/24 hours lecture, 12 hours
laboratory for 4 weeks. CR/NC only.
This course will identify the training necessary for
entry level corrections officers mandated by Standards
and Training for Corrections, a State regulatory
agency. Issues addressed will consist of legal issues,
classification, contraband, booking and release
information, security, supervising inmates and report
and record keeping.
May be taken for a total of 4 units.
AJ 221.4 Juvenile Counselor Basic Course
3 units/34 hours lecture for 4 weeks. CR/NC only.
This course will identify the training required for
entry level positions for juvenile counselor as
mandated by standards and training for corrections, a
state regulatory agency. The class will address
juvenile law, institutional security, booking and
release issues, and public relations.
May be taken for a total of 3 units.
AJ 221.5 Jail Management
1 unit/30 hours lecture, 10 hours laboratory for 1 week. CR/
NC only.
Designed for Jail managers with direct working
responsibility for Type I and II facilities. Emphasis on
problem solving, enhanced by experienced instructors
facilitating the sharing of group experience, current
issues and practical solutions to existing problem
areas.
May be taken for a total of 1 unit.
AJ 221.6 Correctional Officer Basic Academy
Supplemental
1 unit/8 hours lecture for 7 weeks. CR/NC only. Prerequisite:
Completion of AJ 200.1 with grade of C or better; OR prior
qualification for AJ 221.6.
Course is designed to provide correctional curriculum
for those who have completed the P.O.S.T. Basic
Academy. This supplemental curriculum provides the
correctional aspects necessary for a police officer
working in a correction facility.
