County

Sonoma County is known throughout the world for its
wines. Learn how to continue to enhance the tourism
activity for the county and your business or employer.
This course will give you an overview of the variety of
tourism in Sonoma County and how you as an
employee play a critical role in the enjoyment level of

HOSP 51 Customer Service

Basic principles of working with people in the
beverage, restaurant and hotel industries. Customer

HOSP 60 Introduction to Hotel Operations
(Formerly BMG 78.115) 1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks.
CR/NC only.
This course is an overview into the operations of
Hotels. Discussions/topics include reviewing each
function of a hotel and how all the functions interface
with each other. Hotel jargon, terms, policies, and
procedures will be discussed. (CSU)
HOSP 61 Front Desk Representative Training
3 units/24 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/NC option.
The focus of this training is to develop the skills of
non-hospitality students and provide them with the
understanding and the actual skills to handle all
aspects of the front desk at a hotel/motel, activities
center or recreation facility where guests will be
assigned to a guest room one or multiple days. (CSU)
HOSP 63 Overview Hotel Management
3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended: None.
This course will provide an overview of hotel
operations. Each department will be covered, giving
students a chance to explore possible future areas of
concentration. Much of the course will explore
managing the process by which hotel operations
are managed and marketed. (CSU)

HR 60 Human Resource Management
(Formerly BMG 64) 3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option.
What a supervisor needs to know about personnel
administration: Federal and state regulations (EEO,
OSHA, ERISA, etc.) labor relations, wage and salary
administration, employee benefits and services and
other personnel matters the supervisor must
understand. An opportunity to build skills in
handling grievances, disciplining, discharging,
interviewing and performance appraisals. (CSU)
HR 65.1 The Hiring Process
(Formerly BMG 65.1) 1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/
NC only.
The most common factors that all successful
organizations have are their ability to hire the talent
they need to keep their company ahead of the
competition. This process of finding and obtaining
good people is quite complex. This course will
provide participants with extensive background and
practice in completing the hiring process
successfully. (CSU)
HR 65.2 Fundamentals of Salary Administration
(Formerly BMG 65.2) 1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/
NC only.
Participant will learn the impact of salaries on
recruiting and retention of employees. How to
determine market rate and read salary surveys.
Fundamentals of payroll administration including
wage and hour laws,exempt vs. non-exempt
employment status and how to calculate base pay,
overtime pay, vacation and sick leave pay, and final
pay will be presented. (CSU)
HR 65.3 Human Resources Recordkeeping
(Formerly BMG 65.3) 0.5 unit/8 hours lecture for 1 week.
CR/NC only.
Employers must have documentation that supports
all Human Resource areas. The laws and courts have
made recordkeeping both an asset and a liability to
employers. Participants will learn the techniques for
legal document storage and retention. (CSU)
HR 65.4 Administrating Leaves of Absence
(Formerly BMG 65.4) 0.5 unit/8 hours lecture for 1 week.
CR/NC only.
As human resource personnel we must comply with
the numerous employee leaves created by Federal and
State Agencies. In addition, most employers provide
additional leaves. Participants will learn about how
to coordinate and administer the mandated leaves as
well as the additional leaves offered by the employer.

HR 65.5 Benefits Administration
(Formerly BMG 65.5) 1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/
NC only.
The administration of benefits covers a wide range of
constantly changing areas. This course discusses in
detail the most common benefits employers offer and
the process and techniques necessary to ensure the
benefits are properly and legally administered.
Topics include medical, vision, life insurance,
accidental death and dismemberment, workers
compensation, unemployment, COBRA, stock
options, 401K, 403B and retiree benefits. (CSU)
HR 65.6 Fundamentals of Human Resources Law
(Formerly BMG 65.6) 1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/
NC only.
Human Resouce Laws change rapidly. Employer
mistakes and the current legal system make
application of employment law a large liability.
Current Human Resource laws and their application
will be discussed. Participants will discover the
resources available to keep current in Human
Resource laws. (CSU)
HR 65.10 Human Resource Administration
Cert. Overview and Exam
(Formerly BMG 65.10) 0.5 unit/8 hours lecture for 1 week.
CR/NC only. Prerequisite: Completion with a C or better or
concurrent enrollment in BMG 52 and HR 60 and HR 65.1
and HR 65.2 and HR 65.3 and HR 65.4 and HR 65.5 and
HR 65.6 and BAD 52 and BAD 53.
This course allows the Human Resource
Administration certificate candidates to review all the
information provided in the certificate program and
utilize the resources in a comprehensive exam. (CSU)

A series of courses designed to provide current and
potential human resource administration training in
special skills and current trends in human resources.

RE 80A Real Estate Principles
3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Recommended:
Eligibility for English 100A or equivalent.
Examination of the basic fundamentals of real estate
law; industry terminology and general principles
necessary for sitting for State exam. Required prior to
obtaining a test date; applies toward States
educational requirements for the brokers

RE 80C Real Estate Practice
3 units/3 hours lecture. Grade only.
Day to day operations in Real Estate roles and
brokerage including listing, prospecting, advertising,
financing, sales techniques, escrow and ethics. Applies
towards States educational requirements for the
brokers examination. (CSU)
RE 80D Legal Aspects of Real Estate
3 units/3 hours lecture. Grade only. Recommended: Real
Estate 80C.
California real estate law, including rights incident to
property ownership and management, agency,
contracts and application to real estate transfer.
Conveyancing, probate proceedings, trust deeds,
foreclosure and recent legislation governing real
estate transactions. Applies toward States educational
requirements for the brokers examination. (CSU)
RE 80E Real Estate Finance
3 units/3 hours lecture. Grade only. Recommended: Real
Estate 80C, 80D.
Analysis of real estate financing, including lending
policies and problems in financing transactions in
residential apartments, commercial and special
purpose properties. Methods of financing properties
emphasized. Applies toward States educational
requirements for the brokers examination. (CSU)
