Keyboarding requirement. The students must know the
keyboard by touch and be able to keyboard a
minimum of 20 words a minute when beginning the
certificate program. If the student does not know the
keyboard, BOT 50A or BGN 50.02A should be taken to
improve keyboarding skill.

Completion of this certificate program prepares the student as an
employee who responds to customers requests, performs
troubleshooting, refers customers to other resources, and/or take
orders over the telephone or by answering e-mail. Prepares
students to work in both call centers and small businesses.

A Certificate of Completion will be granted upon
fulfillment of the major requirements indicated with an
asterisk with a grade of C or better.
Before a certificate is granted, the student must demonstrate
the ability to keyboard a minimum of 35 words a minute for
5 minutes with 5 or fewer errors.
Before a certificate can be granted, the student must
demonstrate 95% accuracy in completing an alphabetic filing
assessment.
Any exceptions (substitutions/waivers) must have prior
written approval of the Certificate Program Coordinator and
Department Chair. Obtain the necessary forms from the
Certificate Program Coordinator.

The Child Development Associate Teacher certificate meets the
child development course requirement for the associate teacher
level of the Child Development Permit issued by the State of
California Commission on Teacher Preparation
The requirements for this certificate are effective beginning the

In addition to the above in accordance with Title 22, Dept. of
Social Services, 15 hours of training in pediatric first aid, CPR and
childrens health issues. CHILD 90.3 (2 units) or CHILD 253 (1 unit)
fulfills this requirement. This training is also available through
local community agencies.
* Until Fall semester 1997, student will take 1 unit of Child
90.4 plus 2 units from the following: Child 55.1, Child 55.2,
Child 55.4, Child 55.5.
A grade of C or better is required in all certificate courses.

The goal of this certificate is to provide a program of classes from
both the Child Development department and the Administration
of Justice program that targets the needs of those who work with
youth and children in the justice system. In order to work
effectively with youthful offenders, professionals need to
understand both the dynamics of child and family development
and the workings of the justice system in regards to those same
youth. By combining classes from these two programs, students
would better understand the interplay between the dynamics
operating in both systems. All courses included in the certificate
are offered on a regular basis as part of other curriculum offered
within each of the two departments.

This certificate would be appropriate for students working as
assistants or paraprofessionals in early intervention, early
childhood special education or child development programs as
well as regular early childhood programs.
There are two levels of assistant competencies identified by Early
Intervention Assistant
Personnel Competencies for Californias Early Start Program that
are based upon education, experience, training and subsequent
responsibility.
The following fulfills the recommended education requirements
for the academic pathway for Early Intervention Assistant I and II.

This certificate with the addition of 16 GE units will fulfill the
education requirements for the Teacher Permit.
With 6 additional Child Development units and 2 units of
adult supervision, the student will fulfill the education
requirements for the Master Teacher permit with a
specialization in either Infant Toddler Care or Special
Education.
In addition to the above in accordance with Title 22,

CHILD 90.3, Health and Safety for the Young Child (2 units) or
CHILD 253, Pediatric first Aid (1 unit) meet this requirement.
