Introduction to SRJC
History of Sonoma County
Junior College District
Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), founded
in 1918, is the tenth oldest two-year community college in Californias 108 publicly funded
community college system. From its initial
freshman class of 19 students in 1918, SRJC
has grown into one of the largest single
college districts in the country, the Sonoma
County Junior College District.
With 14 major high school districts within
its borders, SRJCs district encompasses more
than 1,600 square miles, stretching from the
southern portion of Mendocino County in the
north to the northern tip of Marin County in
the south. It is bordered to the west by the
Pacific Ocean and to the east by Napa and
Lake counties.
The college district operates two campuses
in Sonoma County: a large 100+-acre campus
in the heart of Santa Rosa, and a 40-acre
campus in Petaluma. The District also

CalWORKs
The CalWORKs Program at the college
serves students who are referred from the
Sonoma County Human Services Department,
Employment and Training Division,
SonomaWORKS Program. Eligible students
receive TANF (Temporary Assistance to
Needy Families, or welfare). Students receive
specialized counseling services provided by
SRJC CalWORKs counselors, as well as
support with books and supplies while
attending college. In addition, funds are
available to cover the costs of childcare and
transportation while students are attending
classes and working.

A comprehensive examination of the
origin, development, philosophy, and legal
basis of criminal procedures in California.
Procedural, statute law, case law,
constitutional law and judicial rules governing
pre-arrest, arrest, custody, crime charging,
motions, applicable rules of discovery and
evidence, California grand jury system,
pretrial court procedures, adult and juvenile
court procedures, verdict, sentencing, and
the appellate process. (CSU)
AJ 56 Crime and Criminal Justice in Society

A critical examination of the nature and
extent of crime in contemporary society and
the social, legal and political responses to
criminal and delinquent behavior. Does not

Prerequisite: Completion of CIS 69.31 (or CIS

An advanced course in Microsoft Access
designed for students who have successfully
completed the beginning course. This course
will explore advanced queries, including SQL,
forms, and reports. Macros and modules will
be used to develop sophisticated turnkey
applications; multi-user applications and

ENGR 10 Introduction to the Engineering
Profession
1.5 units/2.4 hours lecture for 10 weeks. CR/NC
option. Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL
100A; OR eligibility for ENGL 100.
Non-mathematical introduction to the field
of engineering. Students research and discuss
the role of engineering and technology in
society, and the expectations and experiences
of engineers in academia industry. Group
activities, assignments, and interaction are
emphasized. Course focuses on information
technology as a way to assist in making informed
decisions about career paths, majors, and
schools. Course also includes information
regarding engineering transfer requirements
and coursework expectations. Job hunting
skills such as networking, resume writing, and
interviewing are explored. A short oral presentation will be required. Field trips and guest
speakers augment student information

MACH 51A Beginning Machine Tool Technology

Introduction to theory and practices of
machining processes. Includes use and care of
the lathe, mill, drill press, and common hand
tools, and the measurement and layout of
metal for producing a machine part to print
specifications. Also recommended for
