CR/NC option. Recommended: Basic computer skills including Windows, Internet usage, and mouse; or CIS 101A. Eligibility for ENGL 100A or ENGL 100. A comprehensive course on payroll including record keeping, payroll accounting, federal and state reporting, laws governing payroll and computerized payroll systems. (CSU) BBK 53.1 QuickBooks (Formerly BBK 85.4) 1.5 units/2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory for 8 weeks. CR/NC option. Recommended: Basic ability to use a Windowsbased computer. Recording and reporting typical transactions for a small business using Quickbooks software. (CSU) May be repeated with different topics. BBK 53.2 QuickBooks Level 2 (Formerly BBK 85.6) 1.5 units/2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory for 8 weeks. CR/NC option. Recommended: Completion of BBK 53.1 or equivalent knowledge. Advanced applications of QuickBooks accounting software for the office professional. Topics include setting up company books, preparing journal entries, creating reports, budgeting, advanced payroll features, tracking tax information, estimating job costing, maintaining data, solving problems and year end closing procedures. (CSU) BBK 85 Selected Topics in Bookkeeping/ Accounting 0.5-2.5 units/up to 2.5 hours lecture. CR/NC option. Prerequisite: As appropriate to each topic. For the general student, individualized instruction on the Macintosh in formatting/ editing papers and reports using Microsoft Word. English fundamentals: sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary. Use of standard reference sources and proofreaders marks for editing businessrelated sentences, paragraphs, and documents. (CSU) BGN 81 Business Math Skills 3 units/3 hours lecture. Grade only. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100 or 100A. Starting with a review of basic arithmetic and fractions, the course progresses to more advanced topics such as percents, payroll, selling and buying, and borrowing and lending. The course offers preparation for accounting, management, retailing, marketing, and office technology. (CSU) BGN 81A Business Financial Math 1 (Formerly BGN 80A) 1 unit/3 hours laboratory. Grade only. Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A or ENGL 100. Review of basic arithmetic, fractions, and percents. Part one of three parts. Open entry/open exit course that allows students to work at their own pace. (CSU) BGN 81B Business and Financial Math 2 (Formerly BGN 80B) 1 unit/3 hours laboratory. Grade only. Prerequisite: BGN 81A (formerly BGN 80A). Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A or ENGL 100. Review of percentages and introduction to the mathematics of payroll, selling and buying. When combined with BGN 81A and BGN 81B, this course offers preparation for accounting, management, retailing, marketing and office technology.
