BMG 195.2 Implementing a Successful Telework
Program
1.5 units/1.5 hours lecture, 5 hours by
arrangement for 8 weeks. CR/NC only.
This course provides step-by-step
procedures for developing and implementing a
successful telecommuting program in an
organization using a team approach. Topics
include how to start the program, constructing
the policy document, selecting and training
telecommuters, evaluating the program, and
anticipating organizational change.
May be taken for a total of 2 times.

and methods of personal selling: preparation
of selling, the selling process and introduction
to sales management. Behavioral aspects of
selling: sociological and psychological
theories of consumer motivation, behavior and
perception. Includes lectures, discussions,
demonstrations and practice in sales

BMK 52A Sales Fundamentals
1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/NC

Principles and methods of personal selling;
behavioral aspects including theories of
consumer motivation. (CSU)
BMK 54 Advertising
3 units/3 hours lecture. Grade only.
Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A or
ENGL 100.
Principles and techniques of advertising as
applied to national media. Psychology of
advertising, consumer behavior, market
research, preparation of copy, selection of
media, testing effectiveness and organization
for efficient use by management. (CSU)
BMK 55 Promotions Management Marketing
Communications
(Formerly BMK 58.23) 3 units/2 hours lecture, 3
hours by arrangement. CR/NC option.
Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A or
ENGL 100.
To gain real world field marketing
experience, students work with select local
and national companies to design and
implement an on-campus promotion.
Students form an agency team and are
assigned a working budget to fulfill a custom
designed promotion that is entirely their own.
Through this course, students earn valuable
hands-on experience with recog-nizable
companies. Automobiles, food and beverage,
music and film are some of the potential
product categories represented. (CSU)
BMK 57 Introduction to Public Relations
1.5 units/3 hours lecture for 8 weeks. CR/NC
option. Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A
or ENGL 100.
The principles and practical applications of
public relations within a business marketing
setting: communications strategies to build
strong relationships with an organizations
customers and stockholders. Topics include
writing press releases, product launches,
media relations, planning a public relations
program, integrated marketing, event publicity
and investor relations. (CSU)
BMK 58 Selected Topics in Marketing
1 unit/8 hours lecture for 2 weeks. CR/NC only.
Prerequisite: Will vary according to each
selected topic course.
A variety of Business Marketing topics
offered in a short, time-intensive format,
focusing on different issues in each course

BMK 59 Consumer Behavior

Using consumer data and the study of
emerging cultural shifts in forward planning for
marketing and business. Topics include the
effects of evolving consumer activity and the
influence of trends, fads, buzz, pop culture
and lifestyle swings on business and consumer

BMK 60 Retail Marketing
3 units/3 hours lecture. CR/NC option.

ENGL 100.
Survey of independent, chain and
department store merchandising operations
and management. Analysis of problems
concerning store location and layout,
organization, buying, pricing, sales promotion,
inventory planning and control and
merchandising policies. Core course in the
Retail Merchandising Management Certificate

BMK 62 Marketing for Nonprofits
1.5 units/3 hours lecture for 8 weeks. CR/NC
option. Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A
or ENGL 100.
Nature and functions of marketing for
nonprofit organizations; broad survey of how
nonprofit organizations can use marketing to
promote services, build membership and
support fundraising efforts. (CSU)
BMK 72 New Product Development
(Formerly BMK 58.26) 1 unit/8 hours lecture for
2 weeks. CR/NC option.
New product planning from idea generation
to evaluation to product or service realization.
Issues of intellectual property rights including
patents, trademarks, and copyrights are
considered as well as licensing and industry
collaboration. This is especially useful for
entrepreneurs and inventors. (CSU)
BMK 78.1 Critique of Non-Profit Marketing
Materials
1 unit/3 hours lecture for 6 weeks. CR/NC
option. Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 100A
or ENGL 100.
Students will evaluate marketing materials
from non-profit and public agencies
(brochures, newsletters, direct, web, etc.) and
develop clear and compelling communication
pieces with limited budgets. (CSU)
