Students learn and practice the basic information literary skills of formulating questions, identifying and evaluating appropriate resources for college level research. AA/AS area I May be taken for a total of 4 times. Machine Tool Technology MACH 51A Beginning Machine Tool Technology 2 units/1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Grade only. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100 or 100A. Introduction to theory and practices of machining processes. Includes use and care of the lathe, mill, drill press, and common hand tools, and the measurement and layout of metal for producing a machine part to print specifications. Also recommended for students in related vocational areas. (CSU) MACH 51B Advanced Machine Tool Technology 2 units/1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Grade only. Prerequisite: Completion of MACH 51A. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100 or 100A. Advanced machining processes involving the use and care of lathe, mill, drill, drill press, and common hand tools. Measurement, layout and heat treatment of metal. Application of processes in manufacturing and industry. (CSU) MACH 52 Blueprint Reading for Machine and RelatedIndustries 3 units/3 hours lecture, 1 hour by arrangement. Grade only. Blueprint Reading for Machine and Related Industries is a course in reading blueprints, sketches, and drawings used in manufacturing, assembly, and other industrial applications. Students will become familiar with how to read angles, dimensions, sectional drawings, industrial prints, title blocks, shop notes, etc. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 6 units or up to 4 enrollments. MACH 53 Metrology 4 units/3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory, 1 hour by arrangement. Grade only. Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in MACH 51 and MACH 80A AND IED 90A OR APTECH 90A. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100 or 100A. Metrology is the study of the science of precision weights, measurement, and inspection used in industry manufacturing. Students will become familiar with all types of handheld measuring devices, electronic and optical. Visits to local industries utilizing CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) and related inspection devices are included. Print reading will be used as a vehicle to support GD T (Geometric Dimensioning) inspection standards. Class also includes study of ISO (International Standards Organization),SPC(StatisticalProcessControl), and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) inspection standards. (CSU) MACH 61A Ferrous Metallurgy 3 units/2 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory, 1 hour by arrangement. Grade only. Study of ferrous metals including alloying, heat treating, testing and applications in industry. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 6 units or up to 4 enrollments. MACH 61B Non-Ferrous Metallurgy 3 units/2 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory, 1 hour by arrangement. Grade only. Study of non-ferrous metals including alloying, heat treating, testing and applications in industry. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 6 units or up to 4 enrollments. MACH 80A Machine Tool Technology 5 units/4 hours lecture, 4 hours laboratory. Grade only. Prerequisite: MACH 51A. Mach 80A is a course in all aspects of CNC lathe operation. Emphasis is on programming, CNC lathe operation, Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) and Computer Aided Machining (CAM) applicable to entry-level CNC lathe operators. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 10 units within 2 semesters. MACH 80B Machine Tool Technology 5 units/4 hours lecture, 4 hours laboratory. Grade only. Prerequisite: MACH 80A. Mach 80B is a course in all aspects of CNC mill operation. Emphasis is on programming, CNC mill operation, Computer Aided Drawing (CAD), and Computer Aided Machining (CAM) applicable to entry-level CNC mill operators. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 10 units within 2 semesters. MACH 98 Special Studies in Machine Tool Technology 1 unit/3 hours by arrangement. Grade only. Seminars or individual conferences by arrangement to provide for independent study and enriched academic experience. (CSU) Independent study including 49 and 98 courses - 6 unit total. MACH 99 Machine Technology Occupational Work Expperience 0.5-8 units/up to 36 hours by arrangement. Grade only. Machine Occupational Work Experience is supervised employment extending classroom learning at an on-the-job learning station relating to the students educational or occupational goal. Students gain this experience by enrolling in the parallel or alternate plan. (CSU) May be taken for a total of 16 units or up to 4 enrollments. MACH 99I Machine Technology Occupational Work Experience Internship 0.5-8 units/up to 36 hours by arrangement. Grade only. Recommended: Eligibility for English 100 or 100A. Limits on enrollment: Student must complete an application, interview, placement and verification of employment because intern position must be secured prior to enrollment. Machine Technology Occupational Work Experience Internship is supervised employment of students that extends classroom learning to the job site and relates to the students educational or occupational goal. The Intern Program is for students who have declared a major, have taken classes in the major, and are ready for on-the-job experience in a paid or unpaid position. Students will acquire new knowledge, skills, and abilities to prepare for a career in their chosen field. May be repeated for a total of 16 units or 4 semesters. Must be enrolled in 7 units including Intern units for fall and spring semesters. Summer semester requires Intern units and one other course.
