tentative itinerary for highlights of britain day 1 departure we depart for london day 2 london we arrive in london and transfer to our hotel the balance of the day is at leisure this evening is our welcome dinner day 3 london on our city tour we will see buckingham palace tower of london westminster abbey big ben trafalgar square and much more afternoon at leisure day 4 salisbury avebury stone circle bath our first stop is salisbury to admire the beauty of salisbury cathedral one of britain’s finest medieval cathedrals we then proceed to avebury site of the world’s largest stone circle this 4500-year-old unesco world heritage site is the only place in the world you will find a pub and chapel inside a stone circle we continue to the roman town of bath day 5 bath designated as one of only 3 heritage cities in britain bath is an architectural masterpiece our walking tour will show us some of the attractions and hidden secrets that have made bath a desired destination for centuries afternoon at leisure to explore the georgian streets and picturesque walkways day 6 wales chester we enter wales and visit the amazing dewstow gardens these gardens with their tunnels and underground grottoes were buried for 50 years and recently rediscovered we continue on to medieval chester where our central hotel will enable you to explore this historic city you may want to walk along the city walls or shop in the “rows” unique two-tiered medieval galleries day 7 wales chester we head up to north wales a fascinating mix of modern seaside resorts and historic ancient towns we visit conwy castle perhaps the most impressive of all the medieval welsh castles we return to chester for some free time to explore day 8 york we proceed to york steeped in history and period architecture tourists flock here to see the medieval buildings the shambles one of britains best known streets and york minster the most dramatic church in northern england after a walking tour of these sights there will be free time to explore and shop day 9 york we travel through the spectacular countryside with its vast moorlands dramatic sea cliffs and valleys of the yorkshire moors later we enjoy a fabulous home-cooked pub dinner in a quaint village day 10 edinburgh we travel north to scotland as we drive through the area known as the “borders” enjoy the views of rolling green hills moorlands and quaint towns until we arrive at our centrally located hotel in edinburgh day 11 edinburgh with its stunning georgian and victorian architecture and winding medieval streets edinburgh is listed as a world heritage site on our city tour we will see princes street the royal mile and we will visit edinburgh castle afternoon at leisure followed by an unforgettable evening of scottish food and entertainment day 12 inverness our first stop is st andrews home to the game of golf for over 600 years and also the third oldest university in britain our walking tour will show us the ruins of the cathedral castle and parts of the campus after some free time to explore we proceed to the culloden battlefield where bonnie prince charlie was defeated in 1745 this evening we enjoy a special highlander performance day 13 skye we travel along the shores of loch ness where we may catch a glimpse of the famous monster nessie we visit the magnificently located urquhart castle and then eilean donan located in a secluded inlet between the mainland and isle of skye it is one of the most iconic images of scotland day 14 ft william today we experience the unforgettable isle of skye a place where time means nothing the island is dominated by the visual treat of the jagged cuillin mountains we will have free time in the old capital of portree with its colourful houses and traditional harbour and visit the pastoral south of the island we then ferry across the sound of sleat back to mainland and proceed to ft william tonight we dine at a local inn day 15 glasgow a day of glorious scenery as we drive through glencoe scotland’s most famous historic and scenic glen we continue along the “bonnie banks of loch lomond” and the vast wilderness of rannoch moor before arriving at our hotel in central glasgow day 16 glasgow on our morning tour of glasgow we see a wealth of beautifully preserved victorian architecture as well as the majestic glasgow cathedral and the doulton fountain the largest terracotta fountain in the world afternoon at leisure you may want to stroll along sauchiehall st with its fine shops and pubs galore our farewell dinner will be a memorable scottish meal with entertainment day 17 home we fly home from glasgow 13.
