tentative itinerary for amalfi coast day 1 departure we depart for naples with a change of planes in rome day 2 maiori upon arrival in naples we transfer to our hotel in maiori the remainder of the day is at leisure until this evening’s welcome dinner day 3 maiori we meet with our local guide for an orientation walking tour of maiori we‘ll see the beautiful italian style gardens the interesting local church and winding narrow streets and shops day 4 day 5 day 6 ravello amalfi maiori this morning we visit ravello and the villa rufolo the inspiration for some of musician richard wagner s famous works we then continue to the beautiful town of amalfi for a walking tour and some free time to explore maiori today we enjoy a boat trip to positano one of the coast’s most picturesque towns with steeply-stacked houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach pink and terracotta colours its steep streets and narrow lanes are lined with wisteriadraped cafes restaurants and boutiques vietri sul mare maiori we visit the artisan town of vietri sul mare where the local people produce and sell beautiful italian ceramics a great place to buy that special souvenir day 7 amalfi coast sorrento today we travel one of the most beautiful roads in the world the amalfi drive curves along the majestic cliffs bordered on one side by orange lemon and olive groves and on the other by the striking rocky mediterranean shoreline enjoy the scenic views as we proceed to the resort town of sorrento day 8 sorrento galatea farm we begin our day with an orientation walking tour of the cliff-top town of sorrento we see the main square and the piazza tasso always a hive of activity and we also visit the wood inlay museum we then proceed to galatea farm in the sorrento hills where we are welcomed by the staff and given an explanation of the workings of this small farm we enjoy a tasting of local wines and participate in a cooking lesson and pizza making demonstration during which we make our own personal neapolitan pizzas day 9 pompeii sorrento we enjoy a morning tour to pompeii the ruins of a once thriving community destroyed by the eruption of vesuvius in 79ad day 10 sorrento a day at leisure of course there is so much to do and see in the city and in this region your tour manager will be on hand to offer suggestions and optional tours day 11 capri sorrento we catch the ferry from sorrento to the lovely island of capri and its famous blue grotto capri was once a summer resort for roman emperors during our tour we visit the famous piazzetta and the garden of augustus with its view of the faraglioni rocks there will be some free time for shopping before returning to sorrento day 12 sorrento at leisure to enjoy sorrento s fine shopping and cafes this evening we attend a performance of local tradition dance costumes and songs at the tasso theatre day 13 caserta sorrento today we visit caserta known as the versailles of naples because of the royal palace built here by charles iii in the 18th century this enchanting palace has over 1,200 rooms rich in gilded frescoes tapestries and history in 1945 it was the headquarters of the supreme commander of the allied forces in the mediterranean the extraordinary gardens are its crowning glory and the great cascade a waterfall of 75 metres high can be seen clearly from the palace 3 km away day 14 sorrento a final day of leisure this evening is our farewell dinner day 15 home we fly home via rome 35.
