socio-cultural aspects of deafness comdde 5680 dr j freeman king jfking@cc.usu.edu 435-797-1343 syllabus [this course meets the following program standards as outlined by the council on education of the deaf ced 1.2.3 1.2.4 1.2.5 and 1.2.9 the purpose of this course is to present an overview of the various educational socio-cultural and psychological perspectives that researchers have had of the deaf and how these perspectives have impacted the deaf individual the course is designed to lead the students into an investigation and understanding of the deaf community their languages their culture and their identity objectives of the course at the conclusion of this course the student will be expected to 1 2 have an understanding of the demography of deafness have an understanding of the impact of deafness on the socialization of deaf children and deaf adults have an understanding of the impact of deafness on the family in modern society 3.
