five-speed trans conversions xks unlimited is proud to distribute the best fivespeed conversions available they re based on the tried-and-true borg-warner t-5 unit but are handassembled with many custom components for each jaguar application why install a five speed first as far as feel and ease of use are concerned these gearboxes are worlds apart from the original moss aka non-synchro gearboxes which are pleasingly vintage but rough and slow the moss box was basically out of date in the mid fifties it was woefully obsolete by the mid sixties and certainly not up to the standards of jaguar engines or suspensions our five-speeds bring the transmission up to modern standards and eliminate what s arguably the most anachronistic feature of early jaguars second many internal components are no longer available for jaguar gearboxes even the later all-synchro units so a five-speed is sometimes the only alternative to a terminally-ill standard box third with a five speed you obviously gain another gear making for excellent 1-4 ratios and an overdrive fifth for more relaxed cruising at highway speeds the following conversion kits are available xk-120 we offer two options for the xk-120 this option requires shortening your original bell housing which puts the shifter in the stock location and negates having to modify the rear frame crossmember kit includes new transmission not rebuilt speedometer cable shift lever shift knob clutch disc and drive shaft adapter yoke the stock mechanical clutch mechanism pressure plate and throw-out bearing are retained replacing the pressure plate and throw-out bearing would be prudent however a new drive shaft must be fabricated the standard gearbox supplied with this kit has the following first-through-fifth ratios 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.00 and .73 you must send your bell housing for modification gearbox kit 1 7-0002 a big job actually and the change remains hidden kit includes adapter plate new transmission not rebuilt speedometer cable shift lever shift knob and clutch disc and drive shaft adapter yoke the stock clutch mechanism pressure plate and throw-out bearing are retained replacing the pressure plate and throw-out bearing would be prudent however a new drive shaft must be fabricated the standard gearbox supplied with this kit has the following first-through-fifth ratios 3.35 1.99 1.33 1.00 and .73 gearbox kit 1 7-0005xk new driveshaft must be fabricated standard ratios for this gearbox are 3.35 1.99 1.33 1.00 and .73 for 2+2 models some cutting of the floor is required to clear the speedometer adapter and the hand brake cable brackets will require a slight move like our other kits this is the original e-type kit and still the best 3.8-liter 4.2-liter fhc/ots 4.2 2+2 1 7-0001 1 7-0004 1 7-0003 xk-120 xk-140 xk-150 the second kit differs from part number 1 7-0002 in that it employs an adapter plate between the bell housing and transmission this works superbly for xk-140s and xk-1 50s which do not have a rear transmission mount but less so on an xk-120 because the rear saddle mount on the transmission interferes with the frame crossmember but you won t have to modify your bell housing the frame must be cut and a new bracket welded into place for the xk-120 not mk ii sedan kit includes new transmission not rebuilt custom bell housing shift lever shift knob rear transmission mount clutch disc drive shaft adapter yoke speedometer cable and speedometer cable adapter the transmission is mounted to the engine via a custom bell housing a new drive shaft must be fabricated standard ratios for this gearbox are 3.35 1.99 1.33 1.00 and .73 gearbox kit 1 7-0005mk six-cylinder e-types kit includes new transmission not rebuilt custom bellhousing shift lever shift knob transmission mount clutch disc driveshaft yoke and speedometer cable adapter a v-12 e-type kit includes new transmission not rebuilt shift lever shift knob rear transmission mount clutch disc speedometer cable speedometer cable adapter the transmission is mounted to the engine via a modified original bell housing we will need your bell housing to modify a new drive shaft must be fabricated the original clutch slave cylinder is replaced by a new hydraulic release bearing supplied with lines and fittings to attach to the original lines the friction plate on the pressure plate must be removed to obtain the proper clearance standard ratios for this gearbox are 3.35 1.99 1.33 1.00 and .73 gearbox kit 1 7-0005e3 850 fiero lane san luis obispo ca 93401 u.s.a 93 5-speed trans
